2007 New York Auto Show Preview: New Ford Flex

Ford FlexFord’s new full-size crossover based on the Fairlane concept version pictured will make its debut in full production trim at next month’s New York Auto Show. The Detroit News reports that Ford has labeled the new “people mover” the Ford Flex and that it will be available for sale in 2008.
The new Flex is the replacement for Ford’s now defunct Freestar minivan, and is a prime example of the trend towards more flexible and stylish crossover-style MPVs. The vehicle will be manufactured at the Blue Oval’s Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario alongside the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers. Lincoln is expected to offer its own crossover model based on the same platform underpinning the Ford Flex.
Late last year, Ford’s head designer J. Mays said the production version of the Fairlane will be almost identical to the concept car. Inside, there’ll be seating available for six passengers but the new Ford Flex won’t get the suicide style rear doors as seen on the concept.
