Limited-edition Cayman S as Porsche Design Edition 1

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is to expand its mid-engine coupé model range with the launch, in November 2007, of the Cayman S "Porsche Design Edition 1", a limited-edition special series. Porsche has incorporated various design disciplines into this very special mid-engine coupé: the black exterior emphasizes the purist nature of the 295-bhp sports car and, at the same time, is a nod to Porsche Design and the famous Chronograph 1s designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche precisely 35 years previously.

This look, cultivated by Porsche Design, imparts additional luxury and class on the Cayman S: the black leather and Alcantara upholstery harmonizes with refined details such as the instrument dials, the layout of which reflects that of all Porsche Design chronographs. Even the center console, dashboard, and door trims glisten in black, while the three-spoke sports steering wheel, the gear lever, the handbrake grip, and the roof lining are clothed in non-slip black Alcantara. The Porsche logo (crest) is embossed on the headrests.

The vehicle's technical features are equally sophisticated: beneath the ten-millimeter-lower body, standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) actively controls the hardness of the shock absorbers and it features a special Sport mode that can be activated at the touch of a button for a really dynamic driving feel. Five-millimeter spacers together with 19-inch turbo wheels give the Cayman S "Porsche Design Edition 1" a presence that is reinforced yet further by the 235/35 ZR 19 tires at the front axle and the 265/35 ZR 19 tires at the rear.

The Porsche Design Studio, created by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche 35 years ago, has rapidly become a top international name for industrial design, luxury items, and consumer goods. Top-class functionality and esthetics glisten in the new "Porsche Design Edition 1" collection – in black or black matt, of course.

The Cayman S "Porsche Design Edition 1" standard equipment thus includes an elegant briefcase containing the Flat Six Chronograph, a pocket knife, a pair of sunglasses, a pen, and a key ring – all in black, even the knife blade, in keeping with the vehicle's styling. The number of Cayman S "Porsche Design Edition 1" units is to be as exclusive as this series-production luxury package: only 777 are being built, and each will be identifiable from a badge on the lid of the glove box.

The market launch of this black Cayman with exclusive Porsche Design equipment, including briefcase, will begin in Germany in November 2007 and in the United States in January 2008. The base price is 58,600 Euros and, factoring in 19 percent value-added tax, the price in Germany will be 69,942 Euros.

MINI John Cooper Works CHALLENGE

MINI John Cooper Works CHALLENGEMINI John Cooper Works CHALLENGERace is on for new MINI John Cooper Works CHALLENGE
08/14/2007

MINI performance is to be taken to new levels with the new MINI John Cooper Works CHALLENGE, a MINI Cooper S built specifically for track use and ready to race. Set for its first public appearance at the forthcoming IAA Motor Show in Frankfurt, deliveries of the new car will take place from spring 2008.
Key characteristics of the new car include a higher top speed, increased torque, faster acceleration and optimised traction. Performance figures are detailed in the attached document.

Power enhancements are at the core of the striking CHALLENGE car's modifications. As well as a re-developed twin-scroll turbocharger, the standard MINI Cooper S engine receives modified pistons, air filter, air intake passage, catalytic converter, exhaust components, electronic sensors and engine management system.

Numerous chassis and suspension tweaks add to what is a finely-tuned racing package. The new suspension system features adjustable damper units from KW Automotive, designed specifically for motorsport. A six-speed manual gearbox transmits power to 17" front wheels made by Borbet and shod with exclusive new racing tyres manufactured by Dunlop.

Body revisions based on the John Cooper Works Aerodynamic Kit, currently available from all MINI dealers, are key features of the CHALLENGE car's set-up. To generate increased downforce at higher speeds, CHALLENGE car owners can expect a new adjustable rear spoiler, rear diffuser and performance front spoiler. The new braking system performs exceptionally. Large four-piston calipers mean the car can go from 62 – 0mph in just 3.1 seconds. A race-specific ABS configuration and an air-pressure elevating system complete the product modifications, which together equate to a vehicle 30kg lighter than the previous CHALLENGE car.

Safety measures perfect the array of MINI CHALLENGE car features. A roll cage welded firmly to the body of the car houses RECARO bucket seats combined with a six-point safety belt, along with the HANS (Head And Neck Support) system used in Formula 1 cars.

Although the car is designed for race participation, private owners may find owning a MINI CHALLENGE car a compelling prospect. However, the car will not be licensed for public roads and as such is expected to maintain its appeal among racing enthusiasts.

The MINI Challenge race series is fast gaining presence and popularity around the world. Since 2004, Challenge races have been staged in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and New Zealand. In 2008, MINI Australia will also hold a Challenge competition.

Race teams will receive the first MINI CHALLENGE cars from March 2008. Private customers not competing in the MINI Challenge series can expect deliveries of cars from June 2008. An order form for the car can be downloaded from 11 September 2007 at www.MINI.com/challenge-car and the expected price is €49,900 inc. VAT.

2007 Frankfurt Auto Show: Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion

Volkswagen Golf BlueMotionVolkswagen Golf BlueMotionFirst Facts on the Golf BlueMotion:
World premiere of the most economical Golf at the IAA
4.5 liter fuel consumption and 119 g/km CO2: New Golf BlueMotion sets environmentally-friendly benchmarks in the compact class
BlueMotion fireworks: Besides the Golf, Volkswagen will be presenting five other BlueMotion models at the IAA
Wolfsburg, 13 August 2007 - Volkswagen will be firing off the next salvo of its BlueMotion initiative at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. In total, six new models with technology that is as economical as it is environmentally friendly, will debut at the world's largest car show. One of the highlights there: The new Golf BlueMotion. At just 4.5 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, its fuel consumption has been reduced by a full 0.6 liters compared to the original model. Similarly, CO2 emissions have been reduced from 135 g/km to 119 g/km. Actions taken on the BlueMotion make it so efficient that now distances of more than 1,200 kilometers are possible on just one Golf tank of fuel (55 liter). Market introduction of the Golf BlueMotion in Germany is scheduled for the end of this year.

Details of the new Golf BlueMotion: After the Polo, Passat and Passat Variant, the Golf is now the fourth Volkswagen to wear the new BlueMotion environmental badge on its radiator grille and rear hatch that identifies it as the most economical model of the car series. The Golf BlueMotion is driven by a TDI with 77 kW / 105 PS and a hefty 250 Newton-meter of torque that has already achieved recognition as an efficient engine.

A software intervention in engine management reduces the idling speed of this diesel combined with a particulate filter and simultaneously improves its emission behavior. With longer gear ratios in third, fourth and fifth gears, engine speed levels are also lower while driving. These actions alone reduce consumption by about 0.2 liter.

Less apparent but no less necessary for a plus in economy are the thoroughly trimmed and thereby flow-optimized underbody as well as the nearly enclosed radiator grille. To ensure that the TDI engine still gets enough cooling air, the Golf BlueMotion has an effective dual fan. Thanks to aerodynamic design measures, including lowering of the chassis, the cW value of 0.32, which in itself is a good value, was further improved to 0.30.

In the hunt for every gram of CO2 Volkswagen is also relying on light-running tires, size 195 / 65 R 15, optimized for low rolling resistance; they are driven at higher air pressure, increased by 0.3 bar. When all of the modifications come together in the end product, the top speed of the Golf rises from 187 km/h to an electronically limited 190 km/h.

When it comes to equipment options, the Golf BlueMotion customer can choose between the Trendline and Comfortline. In addition to basic equipment, special Blue Motion specification is also on board. The base price of the Golf BlueMotion Trendline is 20,615 euro and this makes it just 315 euro more than the base price of a Golf 1.9 TDI Trendline. When adjustments are made for equipment options, the BlueMotion is even more economical than previous TDI versions with 105 PS and soot particulate filter. Besides the aerodynamic modifications already mentioned, standard equipment includes the Multifunctional Display Plus (MFA Plus) with gear recommendation arrow and a sports chassis. Thanks to its attractive price positioning, the purchase of a Golf BlueMotion already pays off from the first kilometer – and not just for the environment, but also for customers' budgets.

During last year's FIA GT championship Maserati drove their competitors into the ground with the MC12 GT1 (which already spawned the MC12). On the occasion of the overall victory, Maserati introduced the limited edition (12 units) MC12 Corsa.

The Über-Maserati weighs nearly 400 kg (880 lbs) less than the base MC12 (1,150 instead of 1,531 kg [2530 lbs instead of 3368 lbs]). This corresponds to a power-to-weight ratio of 1.5 kg / hp (3.36 lb / hp). With 755 hp and 740 Nm (546 ft-lb) of torque, the Corsa will run circles around the regular MC12 (632 hp).

edo competition does not shy away from extreme sports cars such as this one; instead it gives them finishing touches! Consequently a special suspension system developed by edo competition and manufactured by KW was fitted. The independently adjustable compression and rebound damping permits truly individual suspension setups. The unique system, with its three different adjustments, allows for low-speed compression damping characteristics to be altered while the high-speed settings, having a strong influence on ride-quality, remain constant. True racing technology for the road! Additionally the nose lift function available on the regular MC12 is carried over to avoid front and underbody damage.

Engine-wise, edo competition leaves the 755 hp–strong MC12 Corsa untouched. However, the 6.0-liter V12 now announces its power through a newly developed edo competition high-flow exhaust system – and it does so with a soundtrack guaranteed to induce goose bumps! The sports exhaust system with electronically controlled butterfly valves provides visual cues to the MC12 Corsa's power thanks to dual exhaust tips, each with a diameter of 100 mm (4 in). edo competition put a strong emphasis on quality during its construction. The muffler and exhaust tips are made from durable V2A stainless steel. And, not to be overlooked: a remote control to adjust the sound intensity has been installed!

For better cold braking properties during road use, edo competition employed a ceramic composite high-performance brake system with 396 mm (15.6 in) rotors in the front and 360 mm (14.2 in) rotors in the rear along with special brake pads at both ends.

edo competition had newly developed forged wheels (in black) custom made for the edo MC12 Corsa. On the front axle they're of size 10 J x 19 and on the rear axle of size 13 J x 20. The wheels employed by edo competition are shod with 265/35 ZR19 (front) and 335/30 ZR20 (rear) tires.

An official approval for road service is in preparation so that this unique edo MC12 can also be admired outside of the race track.

2008 Subaru Forester

2008 Subaru Forester2008 Subaru Forester Awarded 5-Star Crash Safety Rating

--Subaru Forester received the highest government crash test ratings in both the frontal and side-impact NCAP crash tests --

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Aug. 9 -- Subaru of America, Inc. today announced that the 2008 Subaru Forester will have the highest rating in the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) crash tests. The Subaru Forester received five stars in both the frontal and side-impact crash tests for both the driver and passenger seating positions.

"The Subaru Forester is the most award winning small SUV in America," said Thomas J. Doll, executive vice president, Subaru of America, Inc. "And when it comes to safety, the Subaru Forester is again leading the way. The proven active and passive safety features including Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and available Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), give Forester customers confidence, control, and peace of mind."

NHTSA's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) provides consumers with vehicle safety information, primarily front and side crash test results, and more recently rollover ratings, to aid consumers in their vehicle purchase decisions. The test results are relayed to consumers via an easily recognizable star rating system - from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest. The NCAP crash tests are conducted at speeds higher than required by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for both side impacts, at 38.5 miles per hour, and full frontal barrier impacts, at 35 miles per hour. The tests are done to compare vehicles for the NHTSA Consumer Information Program and the results can be found at http://www.safercar.gov/.

Like all Subaru models, the 2008 Forester has been optimized for both active safety (the technology to help the driver avoid hazardous situations) and passive safety (the systems that help protect occupants in the event of a collision).

Subaru Active Safety

The active safety concept for the Subaru Forester combines "right size" proportions, with inherently crisp, agile driving responses and dynamic handling systems. The Forester comes equipped with the company's most advanced version of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, delivering power to all four wheels simultaneously. Power sent from the Boxer Engine through a symmetrical drivetrain gives Forester superior driving performance and enhanced traction under any road condition.

In addition to its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, Forester features four-wheel independent suspension, handling each dip and bump independently. The low-friction design and specific spring- and shock- absorber tuning diffuse road irregularities, making the most of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive by maximizing tire contact with the road.

New for the Forester this year is Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), available on all turbo models equipped with automatic transmission, such as 2.5XT Limited and Sports 2.5XT models. VDC is a highly sophisticated stability control system that actively controls the center differential's power distribution by means of a continuously variable hydraulic transfer clutch. The system distributes torque to the appropriate wheel based on input from steering wheel angle, yaw and lateral g-force sensors. It also monitors input from the ABS brake system, adjusting individual wheel braking as needed, helping to maintain vehicle control under a variety of driving conditions.

A four-wheel ABS braking system with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) comes standard with the Forester. The EBD system automatically varies the amount of force applied to both front and rear brakes. It adjusts brake hydraulic pressure between the front and rear axles in order to maximize stopping power.

Subaru Passive Safety

The foundation for passive safety in the Forester, and in all Subaru vehicles, is the proven Subaru Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame body structure. Reinforced in key areas with high tensile-strength steel, the frame combines dual side-impact door beams and front and rear crumple zones. The frame absorbs the energy of an impact from any direction, helps protect the reinforced passenger compartment and provides excellent protection in a variety of collision types.

The Subaru Boxer engine contributes to safety, because it allows more crush room in front impacts. Subaru vehicles are designed to allow the entire powertrain to slide under the car along the floor tunnel in a severe collision, helping to prevent intrusion into the passenger compartment. In the rear, the spare tire is mounted underneath the vehicle to avoid intrusion into the passenger compartment.

Advanced Air Bag Systems

The Subaru advanced frontal air bag system (SRS) uses dual-stage-deployment driver and front passenger air bags. A position sensor on the driver's seat track detects if the driver is sitting too close to the air bag, in which case the system would delay deployment of the air bag's second stage. The system also takes input from a seatbelt buckle switch, to determine if the driver is using the belt.

Front seat-mounted head/chest side-impact air bags protect the driver and passenger's head and torso regardless of seat position. Meanwhile, height-adjustable active front-seat head restraints help prevent whiplash by shifting forward, cradling the head during a rear-end collision.

The passenger side front seat incorporates an occupant detection system that measures weight on the passenger seat - determining the presence of a child or adult - to control air bag deployment. In addition, the system takes input from a seatbelt tension sensor installed in the seatbelt anchor, as well as a seatbelt buckle sensor. If the system determines "empty seat" or "child" (based on weight thresholds), it sets the front air bag not to deploy and illuminates the "air bag off" indicator. If an adult is detected, the air bag will be set to deploy and the "air bag on" light illuminates.

All seating positions in the Forester feature a three-point seatbelt. All Subaru models incorporate electrically triggered pre-tensioners and force limiters in the front three-point seatbelts. These systems work together to gradually restrain the occupants and absorb the impact energy of a frontal collision. The seatbelt pre-tensioners operate simultaneously with the front air bags and cinch the front seatbelts to help restrain the driver and front passenger in their seats. Additionally, the mechanically operated torsion-bar force-limiters extend the belts to reduce the belt forces on the occupants' torsos. The seatbelt mechanism also absorbs energy through internal deformation.

The Subaru Forester also comes standard with active front head restraints designed to help reduce potential whiplash injury in a rear collision. A safety brake pedal system and energy-absorbing collapsible steering column also help prevent injury.

Additionally, the Forester comes with standard child safety features. Rear child-safety door locks keep children safely inside. The locks control whether children can open the door from inside the car and can be set individually for each door. The Forester is also equipped with a LATCH System: Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren. LATCH is a system mandated by the Federal government in an effort to standardize and simplify the installation of child restraints without using the vehicle's seatbelt system. It allows for more secure positioning of a child safety seat, thus providing a safer environment.

The 2008 Forester boasts a 2.5-liter engine. All 2.5X model engines deliver 173 horsepower and 166 kb.-ft. of torque on unleaded regular gas. Meanwhile, 2.5XT model engines deliver 224 horsepower and 226 lb.-ft. of torque on unleaded regular gas.

2008 Porsche Boxster's Limited Edition

2008 Limited Edition Porsche Boxster & Boxster S2008 Limited Edition Porsche Boxster & Boxster S
Porsche Announces Price and Launch Date for New Limited Edition Boxster
Unique Orange Head Turner Dazzles Consumers with Eye-Catching Design and Pricing

Porsche's all-new orange 2008 Limited Edition Boxster and Boxster S will soon be stirring excitement around the country with a stylish design and competitive pricing starting at $49,900 USD and $59,900 USD, respectively. With the first Limited Edition being displayed at a special sneak preview at the NY Auto Show this past spring where it received a rave reception, the 500 eagerly anticipated Limited Edition Boxster and Boxster S models will go on sale in dealerships on September 28, 2007 throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Clad in striking orange paint, a color previously featured only with the track-ready Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the Limited Edition Boxster is as well-built as it is eye-catching and even includes a special "Limited Edition" plaque on the glove compartment. Its sport exhaust system, as well as the safety bars, designed to help protect occupants, are dressed in orange paint. And the SportDesign package that includes spoiler lips in the front, an automatically extending and redesigned rear spoiler, and modified rear trim with integrated diffuser provides a more stunning and sporty appearance.

Complementing the orange paint are several eye-catching elements in black including black painted alloy wheels--with large 18 inch standard on the Boxster and 19-inch standard on the Boxster S--striking black exterior side mirrors, black front and side air inlets, all of which tastefully complement the car's model designation in black on the rear deck and a black convertible top. Black carries over to the seats, carpet, dash, door panels and other surrounding soft surfaces. Adding to the performance theme is the use of Alcantara trim, a suede-like material used on performance Porsches like the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS. Alcantara is pleasant to touch, but it also helps occupants stay planted in the interior during sporty driving. Alcantara trim is used on seat inserts, the three-spoke steering wheel from the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS, and gear shift and handbrake lever on vehicles with manual transmission.

To further tie the interior and exterior, Porsche designers added touches of bright orange to interior trim pieces such as the door lever surrounds and the trim panel that covers the dash-mounted cup holders. Even the gray shift pattern on the gear shift lever carries an orange font.

Sunset Boulevard
Sunset Boulevard is a long, winding thoroughfare that begins in downtown Los Angeles and runs westward more than 20 miles to the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, Sunset Boulevard passes through Hollywood before it becomes the Sunset Strip as it passes through West Hollywood, weaves its way through Beverly Hills and Bel-Air, and continues through the rustic foothills of the Santa Monica mountains, and finally ends at the Pacific Ocean near Malibu. Over the course of those 20 miles, the boulevard's personality undergoes several radical transformations.

The name "Sunset Boulevard" has become a part of Hollywood legend, serving as the inspiration for countless songs, movies and TV shows, including:
The famous 1950 motion picture starring William Holden & Gloria Swanson titled "Sunset Boulevard." The movie, in turn, inspired the 1993 Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name, which starred actress Glenn Close in the lead role of Norma Desmond.
The 1960's popular TV series "77 Sunset Strip"
The Eagles' biggest-selling album, "Hotel California," which featured a photo of a Sunset Boulevard hotel on its cover, the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Former Eagle Don Henley recorded a song about life down at "The Sunset Grill" in 1985
1970's disco singers sang about life "On Sunset," where there were "limousines to hide the stars, tinted glass to hide the scars... "
The final scene in Woody Allen's classic 1977 comedy "Annie Hall" was filmed at a sidewalk café right on the Sunset Strip
